The Rest Stop: A Group Respite Ministry in Kernersville Launching March 17, 2026

The Rest Stop is Kernersville’s first group respite ministry, designed to provide meaningful relief for caregivers of individuals living with dementia and related conditions. This innovative program offers a safe, joyful, and engaging environment where individuals with dementia can thrive through companionship and purposeful activity.
Modeled after the nationally recognized Respite for All Foundation (www.respiteforall.org), The Rest Stop follows a faith-based, volunteer-driven, social model of care for group respite. This holistic approach supports everyone involved: the caregiver, the participant (referred to as a “friend”), and the dedicated volunteers.
The Rest Stop launches March 17, 2026, and will operate Tuesdays & Thursdays, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, at a cost of $40 per person-per session. Each day includes a variety of enriching activities such as music, brain fitness, light physical movement, arts and crafts, service projects, and a shared, family-style lunch.
Most importantly, The Rest Stop group respite ministry fosters a vibrant, inclusive community where friendship, dignity, and joy are central. Through this ministry, we aim to provide not only rest for caregivers but also renewal and connection for all who participate.
Volunteers are trained in the social and relational aspects of caring for our friends living with different forms of dementia, offering mental stimulation and socialization while developing relationships that fill people with a sense of well-being.
Next volunteer training is Saturday, March 7, 2026, from 10am-2pm, lunch provided.
For more information about joining as a friend, volunteer, or to sponsor meals & snacks, contact Gina Floyd at 336-996-6696.
