The Kernersville Chamber of Commerce’s 2023 Duke Energy Citizenship and Service Award

We are delighted to share the wonderful news that the Shepherd’s Center of Kernersville has been honored with the prestigious Duke Energy Citizenship and Service Award. This esteemed accolade recognizes our exceptional dedication to volunteerism and community service, highlighting the profound impact we have made in our community. At the heart of this award lies the spirit of making a positive difference through time, talent, and compassion. The Shepherd’s Center of Kernersville has exemplified this commitment by immersing deeply within our community, and actively engaging with individuals, local businesses, and organizations to address the needs of seniors and the disabled. Through our volunteer-driven initiatives, we have formed meaningful connections, from companionship programs to transportation services, truly improving lives and fostering an environment of belonging. Moreover, as an organization, we want to thank all of our program participants for allowing us to serve you.

The Ernest B. Messer Award

This award is named for Ernest B. Messer, a champion for aging in the General Assembly and former assistant secretary for aging for the NC Department of Health and Human Services between 1981-1985. The Ernest B. Messer Award recognizes a community that has excelled in addressing the needs of its older citizens. The Shepherd’s Center of Kernersville received this prestigious award in 2011.

The Beverly Foundation STAR Special Merit Award

The Beverly Foundation’s annual STAR Search survey began in 2000 and since that time almost 1,600 unduplicated STPs (Supplemental Transportation Programs for seniors) across America have been identified. These awards are presented to the transportation services for senior adults which demonstrate an excellence in service. In 2012, The Shepherd’s Center of Kernersville was one of the 18 national recipients of this award.
